Alright, I just listened to The Red Album on my drive into work. I was all ready when I got this album to come on here with a "Heyzeus tits this is awesome" review...

Unfortunately, I can't...

Now, that's not to say the album is bad. It's different, very very different, and in my opinion maybe too complicated. I appreciate that Weezer always tries to mix things up and try new things, but I think they might have wandered a little too far from home this time. There are only one, maybe two songs that sound anything like old Weezer (Pork and Beans and maybe Troublemaker.), then it goes on a very strange trip. Once again I don't think the album is bad, it's just not what I expected. Maybe I'll fall in love with it after listening a few more times, but right now I'm just kind of rubbing my eyes and wondering what exactly it was I just listened to.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, I know Tom and BP are picking it up today so I'm curious how you guys look at it.

To me the promotion of this album strikes of Green Album, where they put out one extremely solid song as their big bomb single, then the rest of the album sounds very little like that single. On an interesting side note, the one bonus song I've listened to. "Miss Sweeny" sounds MUCH more like themselves. Which makes me wonder if, once again like the Green Album, they're holding back a bunch of solid, more Weezer-esque stuff (Like the other "Summer Session" stuff they did along with Hash Pipe that eventually became Maladroit, their best album since Pinkerton.)

So let me hear what you guys think, because I'm very curious to find out.

If it's weird, chances are I'll enjoy it lol.

BP is the proud owner of the last copy that Circuit City had. Sorry crier, but you can borrow mine.

Best part was I got a shitty story out of the deal. Not only did NOBODY at the store have the price correct, but the one associate who showed me over to the new releases section didn't just not know, he was surprised/disappointed that I snagged the last copy. Dude was literally dismayed by it lol.

This has some pretty good songs on it. So far the greatest man that ever lived is... epic. Well, pretty epic I guess... cool song. Some of the mellow songs towards the end are pretty sweat too. I could see where it's not what you expected though.

Reminds me of when "With Teeth" came out. I was really really stoked for what Reznor was going to come up with after The Fragile which was my favorite of their albums. It was way different, and I didn't really like it at all. I noticed that kinda hapeens with bands you REALLY like... when they start to go in a new direction it's like really hard to get used to. I mean, I like this album so far, only listened through once. THere's some songs I really enjoy.

I'd imagine this wasn't on the scale of me buying Mesmerize by SOAD and just crying bloody murder it sucked so bad, or when 311 went sour on me. They went 0 to emo in like... 1 album, it really blew sack. Or when Taproot's newer album sucked fat cock... really bad. I can come up with a lot of them where it was like dude are you serious? Don't think this one goes that far, but I can relate I guess. Depends on how you take bands going in new directions, I don't take it well at all.

Mesmerize was borderline insulting to me, and that was like worst case scenario.

The Pork and Beans video is cool, I tried to post the vid, but it wouldn't embed, so I'll leave it up to you guys to find it.
