PostPosted: Wed May 09, 2007 12:09 am    Post subject: Evan's World of Darkness Campaign Reply with quote

I’ve finally decided to start a World of Darkness campaign and we’ll started after Bill leaves for Florida (unless Bill wants to make his character now and play, then rejoin my campaign after he comes back from Florida).

The game setting will take place in present day Utica, and mortals and vampires are the only characters opened to PCs (more will become available as the campaign goes on).

Also, to help people planning to play my campaign, I’m posting some general characteristics of vampires so people can start planning on their characters.

Clans - A Clan is the lineage that a vampire share’s with his/her sire. It sort of like an extended family, which determines particular qwerks in the different forms of the curse of vampirism.

Daeva - Other Kindred envy their beauty and grace, their ability to incite passion in mortals, the ease with which they glided through the masses - and that envy is almost as potent a draught to the Daeva as blood itself. These Kindred are consummate predators, and they would seem to be the perfect vampires. Alas, most are too dead inside to enjoy it.

Nickname - Succubi ( male Daeva are sometimes called Incubi, but the clan itself isreferred to by the more common female sobriquet)

Gangrel - While vampires give mortals a reason to be afraid of the dark, there are a exist things that give even vampire’s recent theater - creatures like the game world, the predatorsamong the predators, the most savage of beasts. Perhaps the only clan whose mere mention almost always a elicits a shudder or a reverent nod, the Gangrel are, in many ways thequote “noble savages” of the vampire race.

Nickname - Savages

Mekhet - Vampires have always been creatures of the night by design, but none more so than the dwellers in darkness who comprise clan Mekhet. Darkness is the hallmark of this lineage, and its members surround themselves with it like a corpse wears a shroud. the hallmarks of the clan are stealth and wisdom, so it is entirely fitting that they are associated with darkness - the better to hide them and the source of the knowledge they exhumed.

Nickname - Shadows

Nosferatu - Not all curses are created equal, and even the Damned have outcasts. These are the Nosferatu, the most overtly disturbing of the undead. Only sometimes able to pass as humans, the Nosferatu are horribly warped by the embrace, eitherphysically or … otherwise. They dwell in shadows that other vampires would not dare. even other undead fear the Nosferatu, for their unsettling seeming are constant reminder reminders that those Kindred who looked mortal are not.

Nickname - Haunts

Ventrue - The Ventrue off are a very simple boast: They win. They always win. Other Kindred often despise the Ventrue, but they seldom dispute the clans boast. All too often, a Kindred works and schemes to win some prize, only to find that a Ventrue owned it all along. The officers who flee the city’s Kindred almost always include several highly placed Ventrue. The Ventrue acknowledge no defeats, only setbacks. The clan shares a ruthless will to power and the power to enforce its will.

Nickname - Lords

Bloodlines - As a vampire ages, he/she is able to make an kind of offshoot from their Clan or joined an already existing offshoot called Bloodlines.

For simplicity sake, I’ll not be allowing anyone to take a Bloodline during character creation.

Covenant - Covenant’s are the different political factions that usually governed vampire society.

The Carthians Movement - Undeniably the youngest of the major Kindred covenants, theCarthians are fire-eyed reformists, eager to bring the establishment to its knees if that’s what it takes to facilitate positive political change. if the unbounded are the irritable loners and individualists, then the Carthians are of their politically motivated counterparts, the young Turks who seek to shake up the status quo with the honesty of their passion and the integrity of their ideas.

The Circle of Crone - Few vampires outside The Circle of Crone have anything even approaching a complete understanding of the groups secretive beliefs and behaviors. As they come in and, the Circle is as devoted as the Carthians, more tightly organized than the Invictus, and as often as not, more beard and misunderstood than the Lancea Sanctum and the Ordo Dracul. for many neonates, these mysterious Kindred are the “bogeyman” of vampire society - those who gather is sequestered cabals, where they practice ancient and eldritch rites in reverence to bloody gods and goddesses of cultures forgotten or shunned.

Nickname - Acolyte

The Invictus - In the eyes of those who don’t understand it - and, admittedly, of some who do - the Invictus is the despotic aristocracy of the undead, the gentry who did nothing to earn their position but who would do anything to maintain it. They’re the landlord, the overseer, the dictator. The Invictus might not truly hold much more authority across the domains than the other covenants do, but it makes such a big deal about what powered does have that many kindred often associated with the highest offices.

Nickname - First Estate

The Lancea Sanctum - To the members of the Lancea Sanctum, the self-proclaimed heralds of the undead morality, their origin defines everything they are and everything they do. Indeed, the modern sobriquet “Sacrificed,” by which the covenant is sometimes known, incenses many elders and traditions of the covenant, her to use the Latin “Lancea Sanctum” when referring to the collective covenant. They are the religious and even moral backbone of the Kindred, yes, but they are also a self-appointed priests and inquisitors. the most inhuman of an inhuman race, they exalt the rule of predator.

Nickname - Sacrificed

The Ordo Dracul - The curse of their vampirism is but an obstacle, a hurdle before achieving true power. Granted, it’s a daunting hurdle, and one that most Kindred are ill-equipped to even see as surmountable. For those with the necessary devotion, the tendency and intelligence, the Ordo Dracul, the Order of the Dragon, can provide the means. The vampires of the Ordo Dracul run the gamut from dogged fundamentalists with just as much zeal as any fanatic to coldly secular theosophists simply seeking the means to destroy an enemy. The covenant welcomes both mentalities, for both have much to teach.

Nickname - The Dragons

The Unaligned - When one here’s a vampire referred to the existing Kindred order as the “despotic aristocracy of the undead” the speaker is probably one of these free-thinking spirits - those whom the vampire world has dubbed somewhat misleadingly as one of the “unaligned” or “unbounded.” They are the rebels, outlaws and iconoclasts of vampire society, those who freely (and often intentionally) flout the so-called rule of the elders among their kind. Independent Kindred can also simply be apolitical vampires, those who would knowledge only their own authority but who don’t necessarily make a grand show of defiance against the Princes and Regents.

Nickname - The Unbounded

I should also note for people that don’t know, the White Wolf system is not like Dungeons and Dragons system where you just roll a d20 and hack everything up. It requires a lot of thought, role-playing and on ass-load of d10's.

Name: Lupul-Angro AKA the Wraith (in the Newspaper)
Location: Somewhere on I90 in the woods.
Clan: Gangrel
Bloodline: Unbounded
Age: 53
Gender: Male
Backstoryish stuff: To vampires he is an outcast. He only looks out for himself, and takes no part in the trivial wars and quarrels of other vampires. He sees them as foolish. To the living, he is a serial killer known as "The Wraith". His hunting grounds are rest stops along the Thruway in the CNY area. Since the authorities have no hard evidence against him (fingerprints, DNA, description), he has "lived" in infamy for a number of years. Of course he kills for his own survival, which the living could not possibly understand. Regardless he is hunted. He makes refuge in the forest. A small shack is his home, and his alliegance is to his own beliefs. So far, he hasn't come across a better cause, but I'm sure Easy E will think of something he can't turn down.

Oddjob used a bowler in the novel, but he used a top hat in the movie.
