|
|
Here are the songs as follows for the first round of competition in the BPI Audiosurf League!
1. Focus - Hocus Pocus
2. Jaws of Life - John Petrucci
3. Larry Pierce - Yeast Infection
*edit*4. MC Chris - Fett's Vette*edit*
5. Yes - Going For The One
6. Stemage - Super Metroid Metal (Boss Stage)
7. Blur - Music Is My Radar
8. Fuzz - The Answer Man
9. Youth of Britain - Welcome To Britain
10. The Unicorns - Tuff Ghost
11. Interpol - Take You On A Cruise
12. Search/Rescue - Fireflies
Here is how the mp3s should be ripped to ensure fairness and equality in scoring:
I will be burning the CDs using iTunes so that I can take advantage of burning the "CD-Text" so that when you rip the CD it will automatically have the song name, artist, album, year, etc. already in it's tag. To make sure that this works, rip the CDs using iTunes. (I know, grumble away, but iTunes is sweat even if you don't own an iPod.)
To rip the CDs to the bitrate mentioned in another post before, follow these steps:
1. Open iTunes (duh)
2. Click Edit > Preferences
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. Under the General tab, click Change to change the iTunes music folder location to whatever folder it is that you keep your Audiosurf songs in.
5. Click on the Importing tab (next to the general tab) and use the following settings: Import using: MP3 Encoder - Setting: Higher Quality (192 kbps) and have the "Use error correction when reading Audio CDs" box checked.
6. Insert the CD
7. Click Import
8. When importing is completed your files are ready and you can surf away.
Now I should also mention a couple of things.
1. If you already have these songs, use the ones on the CD. I know this sounds stupid, but it ensures the playing field is level.
2.Each Volume will last two weeks. At the end of those two weeks, the results will be collected, the scores tabulated and everyone's standings in the league posted here on the BPI. _________________

Psst, you don't need to rip songs to play them in Audiosurf. _________________ In response to your Lightning Blast, I'll eat this burrito.

I know that, but I think it would be beneficial for us to rip them because I'm sure we're all going to want to add this music to our respective libraries anyway. _________________

According to you, the better the sound quality the better the score potential. Any rip is going to lose SOME quality. May as well keep them all in exactly the same state. _________________ In response to your Lightning Blast, I'll eat this burrito.

I forgot to mention that we will start the first volume on Monday, March 31st and end it Monday, April 14th. So keep sending me more songs you want to play in the league! _________________

Oh, and I changed my mind about Arkanoid. You'd know this if you had looked at the songs I sent you. _________________ In response to your Lightning Blast, I'll eat this burrito.

Very true Tom, but the thing is, if we all rip them, we will all be on the same playing field. Not only that, all of these files will be from a compressed source to begin with. So it doesn't matter if it's played from a CD because the files are still going to be of a lower quality. You're not that hard up for HD space are you? _________________

Actually I am. Also, fuck iTunes.
But seriously though, why add a whole extra step and mandatory download to this process? It works just as well without ripping them. _________________ In response to your Lightning Blast, I'll eat this burrito.

Well since Tom has sand in his vagina about iTunes, (for probably the same 'oh shit apple is going to steel my dataz' reason as JB's fear of Valve) and can't seem to spare 50MB of HD space, then we'll play the songs from the CD. _________________

| I think it's pretty impossible for me to get a physical cd, is it possible to send them through aim or some other file transfer service? |

lol... you can't email the songs? Or you can FTP em via AIM. I think I'm the only one without the capability to do that. Fairly certain there's sites that you can upload the songs to as well, and then they act as a host for your friends to download them.
We have the technology!
Oh, and I second the "fuck iTunes". I have this thing against Apple, not sure why, but I do. It has a lot of similarities with my phobia of Volkswagens. _________________ BP's Video Game Wishlist!:
