Alright, since it was apparently Dan's idea to run the league, and I get the idea that he wants to run it, I gave him moderator capabilities. As of right now I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm joining, but you all know I'll cave in eventually.
Do you want to make a usergroup, so this is hidden and can only be seen by members of the league as well? I have that for the BPI stuff, so only those who have played in a BPI sanctioned event can see the stuff. _________________ BP's Video Game Wishlist!:

You know you want to join bill, you know you want to join...
Thanks for making this sub-forum for this league, my good friend. Now we can start discussing things like rules, distribution of music, scoring etc.
So here are a couple of ideas I have for the league.
As far as distribution of the music is concerned, I want to give out an entire CD's worth of music either bi-weekly or monthly to play on. Obviously I'm not going to choose all of the songs by myself because then everyone would be playing nothing but obscure prog-rock and Metallica songs. I would like to have everyone in the league give me a list of about 10 songs they would like to play, I'll try to whittle them down and then we'll put them up to a vote either here on the boards or by some other means. Then the songs with the most votes will end up on the CD (space allowing of course).
There are several ways to handle scoring. One idea that I think will work out the best (and will encourage gameplay in all of the modes) is to score by difficulty. For example, say Enter Sandman is one of the songs. Well, there are scoreboards for easy, medium and hard difficulties. As such, the scoring could go as follows: 1X for easy, 2X for medium and 3X for hard difficulty where X is the points awarded due to the place you get on the scoreboard. Now before I go any further, there are "friends only" scoreboards that this would be based off of and not the global or regional scoreboards. Now we can award points like as follows; if there are 5 people in the league, first place gets 5 points, second gets 4, third gets 3, fourth gets 2 and fifth gets 1. Now going back to our example, if I get first place for Enter Sandman in the medium difficulty, I would get 10 points for the league; 5 for coming in first X 2 for the difficulty. And obviously people will be ranked by the number of points they have.
Tell me what you guys think. I am welcome to all suggestions and criticisms. _________________

Instead of voting, we could just all provide 3 songs each round. I don't think 15 songs is too much. That's about the size of a long album. _________________ In response to your Lightning Blast, I'll eat this burrito.

Well yeah, we could do it that way too, but I was thinking we could be a bit more democratic about it by voting on the songs. In reality, its just you, me, Paul and Mike at the moment, so I suppose everyone could submit 3 or 4 songs.
As far as track length goes, I suppose the limits should be that they're between 2:30 and 12:00 long (thats minute:seconds Evan). That way, we're not playing on songs that are either ridiculously short and we'll all still be able to strive for the mono achievements.
Now as far as submitting goes, I need from everyone song files that are playable in iTunes. That means anything that's playable in Audiosurf pretty much. The quality isn't much of an issue because we'll all be playing the same song, however, when they are ripped from the CD, the quality should be 192 kbps mp3. Why so strict on the quality? Because there is a difference in the amount of points you can score in relation to the quality of the song file. _________________

Seems like everyone submitting songs would be best. That way everyone has their sort of "home field advantage". If you put it up to a vote, it could be that none of my songs get picked, and all of yours, or something like that. It would give you an advantage because you know the songs well, and have probably played them a lot more. Seems like it's fair for everyone if each person picks a sample. Plus you get to listen to different stuff that you wouldn't normally. This could be a bad thing, but we'll pretend that we're all optomistic and like exploring new stuff.
Anyways, if I play, you know they'll all be White Stripes tracks since I'm addicted. _________________ BP's Video Game Wishlist!:
