|
|
Ok, as I'm sure a handful of you may already know, Audiosurf just came out this past Friday. Audiosurf is an amazing game that lets you "ride" your music. Basically, think of Guitar Hero where you move a vehicle instead of press buttons on a plastic guitar. Here is Steam's page on the game itself which has screenshots and a lot better description than I can provide.
http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=game&AppId=12900&cc=US
This game is not resource intensive in the slightest. In fact, if your computer is less than 4 years old, you can probably run it without a problem. That, coupled with the fact that the game only costs $10.00 makes for a very good value.
Now, to get to my idea for this game. The game uses scoreboards to keep track of people's performances on all the songs that they play. The scoreboards are worldwide, local and friend only scoreboards. My idea is to get a bunch of people within our group or locally to start playing this game so that we can all basically try to beat one another's score on various songs. This is where the league part comes into play. Maybe once a week or once a month, we distribute CDs out to everyone in the league with songs on them that are chosen/voted on/whatever and we compete on those songs for that week/month/whatever. I'm sure we could all work out a scoring or ranking system for it that will add another dimension to the league.
If you aren't interested in the idea, at least check out the game because it is a really great game. _________________

sounds good to me
If you wanted to do a "league" format, each week we could have a list of so many songs to play, and then we'll tally up the total points from the list and the highest total score wins or something. Each person can pick one or two songs or whatever. |

I guess I'll play, if someone tells me where to purchase the game, and I'm defenitly not buying it until all the rules are established and we decide that we're doing this. _________________

It will be downloaded through Steam. It will have to be installed on a PC of course.
If you don't have Steam, get it here.

Well don't let me twist your arm, noobie. If you don't want to do it, then don't do it. I haven't thought all of the particulars out yet. This thread is just to see if people would be interested in something like this. Once I've gotten some people on board for it, then we'll talk about rules, how it'll be played, how and when songs will be distributed.
Now for those of you who don't know, Steam is a game/program launcher, game store and update manager all wrapped into one. It's made and run by Valve, the makers of Half-Life, Counterstrike, Team Fortress and other great games.
All games purchases are done through downloading the game directly onto your computer. Some advantages of this include getting the game as soon as you order it, being able to play all of your games from any computer that has Steam installed on it and getting updates/patches automatically before you even start the game.
Steam also functions as a program launcher. Say for instance you have a game or games installed on your computer already, you can import the shortcuts into Steam and launch them right from the same window as all of your other Steam-bought games. The same can be done with any kind of program. For instance, you could launch Microsoft Office, Firefox (which all of you should already have) and Half-Life 2 from Steam.
For those of you still on the fence about Audiosurf, check out some of these gameplay videos:
David Bowie - Space Oddity: http://youtube.com/watch?v=HH8iTd87GhU
System Of A Down - Chop Suey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTOFdPY9I9E&NR=1
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FRaHE_GC60
I also forgot to mention that if you buy the game through Steam you also get the entire "Orange Box" soundtrack as well. And then you can play:
Jonathan Coulton - Still Alive (Portal credits song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZPdwXgwf1Y _________________

And for those who are interested, Steam also keeps track of your playing history and achievements for you in a Steam Community profile.

I watched one of those videos and I honestly MORE confused on how gameplay works, I can't figure out what he's aiming for.
Is Steam free/ do I need it to get the demo? _________________

Steam is free. You would know this if you went to any one (1) of the links that have been posted in reference to Steam.
No, you don't need it to get the demo. If you do purchase it through Steam however, you don't have to download anything more than an update to unlock it. This is opposed to having to download the game all over again. _________________

And I swear to gods noobie, if you are still confused after this, I don't want anything to do with you anymore. I'm serious.
