The first session of my new campaign has come off to a rocky start. The most notable “bump” being that two of the players that said they were going to be there, not showing up.

But despite that and some character creation confusion, we were able to have a good mini session.

Game back story:
Like Atlantis, Utica used to be a great city, for the Awakened. The Mohawk River and Erie Canal provided powerful Ley Lines for the city’s hallows. The city’s economic prosperity in the late 19th century gave ample opportunity for any Magi, looking to make it big. And there was no political strife between the cities Awakened. All thanks to the wise and subtle counsel of the Celestial Chorus, the city’s oldest and most powerful cabal.

Unfortunately, time inevitably slays all things. And as key members of the Chorus started to pass away in the mid 20th century, thing started to a road. Infighting and miss uses of power started to tare the cabal apart. With the Celestial Chorus in chaos, other cabals started vying for power. This led to a decade of pointless violence that also allowed the Seers of the Throne, who had been eyeing the city for some time, to get a foothold in it.

In the early 1960s, after losing several more members, the Chorus finally disintegrated. Its former members either forming new cabals or leaving the city out right. As of today, the only former members alive is Hermaic of the Academy and Luthor of the Black Crows. The Black Crows now being the city’s dominant cabal.

Recent Game History:
As of late, the Black Crows holed on power has come under question. All due to the intervention of one “creature”, Marcus McFeardon. His leadership of the Kindred community has only lead to a few direct conflicts between Magi and vampires. But the political implications have left the Crows wounded.

Though no cabal has publicly stated it, rumors are growing that the Crows are wasting the Consilium’s resources for petty things. This is particularly damning since a cabal of Tremere Lichs was discovered operating in the city. And even more so when it was McFeardon’s “agents” that dealt with the problem, mostly alone.

But the Crows have not taken damage alone. So far the Academy is in a dire state as well. Since two of its most prominent members Nuke and Noluck have been killed by “a mysterious sniper”, the cabal has been having trouble filling their places.

This is the backdrop of where this campaign begins.
